Client
Pastelaria Mengos was founded in 1978, in the heart and city centre of Porto, on Rua de Santa Catarina, the city’s most prestigious shopping area.
The origin of the name Mengos comes from the fact that one of the partners was a supporter of Flamengo football club from Brazil, a passion he developed during his time living there. Mengos is an abbreviation of the club’s name. With the approval of the other partners, this became the name of the establishment.
From 1978 to 1996, the establishment became known for its fast counter service, where freshly fried Berlin balls, tender pastries, croissants, Jesuits, puff pastry turnovers, caldo verde and steak sandwiches served on a plate delighted passers-by.
In 1996, expansion works were carried out, creating a clearly defined restaurant area and another area for tea room and pastry service, with in-house production—a layout and configuration very similar to the one seen today.
